“The Readers Studio is our family reunion.”

I realized on the way home that the folks I connect with at The Readers Studio are becoming another family for me and these events are our family reunions. Even though we may only see each other once or twice a year, our bonds are strengthened each time and go a little bit deeper.

This is one Tarot event I just will
not miss.

— Joanna Powell Colbert
Creator of Gaian Tarot

Dear fellow Tarot lover,

It’s been several months since we closed the circle and said goodbye at The Readers Studio 2008. And we’re still processing it all!  The learning, the sharing, the deep connections to our inner selves and to each other… these things and more could fuel our contemplations for the rest of the year.

We know we’re not alone.  Many of you have approached us personally to share your experiences — the techniques you’ve learned, the “a-ha!” moments, the personal breakthroughs.

We couldn’t help but notice something special at this year’s event. Here’s what we mean…

We always keep close tabs on the energy at The Readers Studio — it’s just part of taking care of our guests.  We’ve hosted the event for 6 years running.  Every year, the energy changes.

Such ebbs and flows are perfectly normal, of course.  Sometimes, the shift is slight. Sometimes, it’s dramatic!  This year, the energy was very distinct, and through it all, there ran a common thread…

The connection of minds, hearts and souls

When we created The Readers Studio, our intention was to provide a place where professional readers could get intensive training in practical reading skills from the very best teachers in Tarot. We believe that Tarotists need a sacred space to learn from the top pros.  (Okay, and we wanted an excuse to invite all of our friends to New York every year, too!)

And that’s still what The Readers Studio is all about.  But so many of our readers have told us that while our expert line-ups and practical take-aways may have initially attracted them, something much deeper calls them back, year after year without fail….

“I now know what it truly means to belong.”

I cross the threshold of a hotel room full of people I’ve never seen before and I belong. I am welcomed, embraced, kissed on the cheek, bring tears of joy to eyes I’m seeing for the very first time because I belong.

I now know what it truly means to be among kindred spirits.

— Valerie Aikens

“The community never fails to amaze me!”

It never fails to amaze me — the Tarot community that Ruth Ann & Wald have created with The Readers Studio. There is such connection and bonding — and this is only their 6th conference! How do they do it? (Actually, if you’ve ever met them, you know the answer to that. They’re great.)

I love the way the various groups form, break up and reform in different structures and we all just bounce around and mix with each other. It’s such an inclusive group of people and everyone is so welcoming and friendly.

So much choice! What to do, where to go? Who to catch up with next? And yet it all seems to flow seamlessly and effortlessly.

— Mary Collin

“You’ll feel welcomed and worthy…”

The Readers Studio is hard to put into words. You meet the most magnificent people in our field and feel welcomed and worthy. Even lunches are as informative as the workshops because of the networking and easy conversations.

— Nancy Antenucci

“A circle of friendship, support and courage.”

I don’t think I can describe it because it was so surreal and yet so intimate. Meeting all of the regulars who have been online pals for years was beyond belief!

We all connected as family….just like we do online.

We come away from The Readers Studio embued with each other’s fire and energy, creating a circle of friendship, support and courage to stand up and be responsible to each other and our true calling! I know that all of us felt empowered and emboldened by this time together.

— Elisabeth Roth

"I left united with all."

I came to the conference as an individual with an open heart and I left as a society of 140 with Unity to all.

— John Zappia

When we enter the ballroom and sit down together, there are no lines and no divisions. You may find yourself sitting next to an author whose work has sustained you for years, but in that moment, it matters not. When we gather at the tables to complete the work as a group, we’re all “just folk.” And that’s when the magic happens…

“I was welcomed as a valued equal.”

I’d never done a “professional” reading, and a small part of me feared of being singled out as the newbie at the Studio. Of course that never happened. I was welcomed as a valued equal and my ideas and interpretations were accepted as equal to my fellow attendees.

— Andrew Robinson

“There’s no hierarchy…”

There’s no hierarchy of “experts” and “students”—we’re all practitioners of the art who want to learn more.

— Mary K. Greer, Tarot legend
http://marygreer.wordpress.com

The Readers Studio is a place where Tarot lovers are truly free to be who they are. And that means connection: with our innermost selves, with our friends old and new, and with the group as a whole.

This connection energy is some really powerful stuff, and it attracts passionate readers like a magnet.  Over the past several years, the momentum has been building.  This year, it was downright incredible!  And that means…

We Continue To Grow By Leaps And Bounds!

It’s a truth that all magicians know: when you put energy into motion, at some point your creation takes on a life of its own.

So it has been with The Readers Studio.  Study groups, online discussions, Tarot cocktails, real-time gatherings over the phone and on the web… there’s even a Readers Studio social networking site (think MySpace, only for Tarot lovers) — all fruits of readers who wanted to make The Readers Studio even better. (And keep our "family reunions" going all year!)

The Readers Studio has become the real-world meeting place for so many kindred spirits whose connection might otherwise have been only by computer screen.  Online communities throughout the world have chosen to make The Readers Studio their annual heart family gathering, and we couldn’t be happier.

We know that as our family continues to grow, the energy is bound to shift again.  But one thing will always remain the same…

Community, Connection, And Everything You’ve
Come To Love From The Readers Studio:
Where Tarot Readers Learn From The Experts

Our original purpose remains the same: to provide you with the very best practical training available in a fast-paced, stimulating environment.  Your fellow readers will gently push you to go further and deeper than you’ve taken your readings before.  The goal?  To dramatically improve your skills in a very short period of time.

Here’s how we do it…

Three master sessions with our expert presenters: The experts themselves share their best-of-breed practical techniques!  This is your chance to learn Tarot from your favorite authors. We encourage them to bring their very best stuff and material never presented elsewhere. Our master sessions are three hours long, so you can truly enjoy soaking up all they have to share AND put your new skills into practice right away.

Bonus pre-conference session: For those who like to get started early (or, more likely, squeeze in as much Tarot as they can!), we personally teach an extra session on Thursday, the afternoon before The Readers Studio officially begins. These classes are never-before-presented concepts from the treasure trove of material we’ve developed over the years.  This year, we’ll go deep into an intriguing topic not often discussed outside of closed doors….

A selection of after-hours workshops: The fun lasts way into the night at The Readers Studio.  Presented by well known Tarotists and talented up-and-comers alike, the after-hours study groups are always a hit. Time and again, happy attendees have told us that their favorite moments and biggest insights are found in these classes. The final line-up has yet to be determined, but expect at least 6 study groups to choose from (and we’re hoping for 10!). Class selection will include hot topics rarely covered outside of The Readers Studio.

Hours of hands-on reading time:  We don’t call it The Readers Studio for nothing! Our main sessions will give you plenty of hands-on practice time to cement what you’ve learned.  But that’s just in class… i.e., just the beginning! We go to great lengths to create a space that’s conducive to readings whenever it strikes your fancy. Come armed with cards and ready to read everywhere: in the bar, at dinner, in the lobby, and long into the night. Not only will you improve your skills with every reading, you’ll forge bonds with your new friends to last a lifetime.

BRAND NEW!
Two Lunch N’ Learn Sessions

It’s the classic Readers Studio question: “What are we doing for lunch?” This year we’ve arranged something very special to make it easy! On both Friday and Saturday, join us for an extra session over a gourmet buffet!

Chicken marsala, penne ala vodka and a sumptuous paradise vegetable medley are just some of the dishes you’ll enjoy with your Readers Studio friends at these bonus classes. We’ve taken special care to pack the menu with delicious choices for vegetarians, vegans, those with gluten or lactose intolerance and carnivores (of course!). Your price for each Lunch N' Learn session is just $20 and includes everything: the session fee, buffet, tax & tip.

Connie “Garnet” Schaeffer and Valentina Burton are plotting to make each luncheon a very special occasion. We're not going to reveal what they have up their sleeves, but we promise you they'll be both instructive and hilarious!

Click Here to see the menus!

If that sounds like a lot, well, it is!  Give it your all, and you’ll walk away with…

More Practical Knowledge In 3 Days
Than Most Workshops Teach In 3 Weeks

The work you’ll find at The Readers Studio isn’t demanding, but it IS high energy and the action is pretty much non-stop.  We ask our guest experts to pack as much high-quality material into their presentations as possible, and do everything we can to help you hone your skills. You’ll leave with enough tools, tricks and insights to fuel your practice for months to come.

It’s no exaggeration to say that just one thing you learn at the Studio can change your practice…

“After 37 years, it transformed the way I read Tarot.”

It was extraordinary! And as several previous attendees foretold, it has transformed the way I will now be reading the Tarot. Not a small thing to say after 37 years of practice!

Although I don’t have previous Studios with which to compare it, I have been to many, many events of this sort — from highly specialized, technical and professional corporate conventions to deeply intense metaphysical and magical retreats… and so I think I can evaluate this with some experienced objectivity.

So I would truly, with all my heart, tell you that on a dozen different levels, I would call the 2008 Tarot Readers Studio a triumph and a blessing for all.

— Beth Owl’s Daughter

Announcing the
2009 Readers Studio Presenters!

Our guest presenters are always the jewels in the glittering crown of The Readers Studio and this year is no exception.  We’re delighted to welcome one of our favorite presenters back to the stage, and two of our good friends whom we’ve wanted to bring to you for years! (Yes, when it comes to presenters, we get just as psyched as you do!)

James Wanless James Wanless, PH.D (Political Science, Columbia University) was a distinguished professor in the Middle East when he experienced a life-threatening disease which led to a spiritual transformation.  Then came yet another major life change: a Tarot reading from a colleague. Inspired and energized by the Tarot’s power to transform, James threw himself into the world of Tarot and never looked back!

James is a charismatic teacher who is passionately devoted to making Tarot personal, relevant, and practical.  His commitment to bringing Tarot out of medieval Europe and into the multifaceted, multicultural 21st Century lead him to create The Voyager Tarot, one of the most popular modern decks.  Full of symbols from the cultures of the world, The Voyager Tarot empowers readers with deep access to their intuitive abilities and creative skills.

We’re thrilled to welcome “Captain Pick-A-Card” to The Readers Studio for the first time ever!  James will be sharing some powerful, transformative techniques with us.  Be sure to bring your Voyager decks with you if you have them (but don’t worry if you don’t — you’ll still reap the benefits of James’ presentation).

Geraldine At long last, Geraldine Amaral makes her debut as a Readers Studio presenter!  You may know Geraldine from her extensive work in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, or her  appearances at past Tarot conferences.  If so, you know why we’re so excited…

Geraldine is a well-respected teacher, motivator, and spiritual leader.  She is co-author of Tarot Celebrations: Honoring the Inner Voice and publisher of the fan favorite Tarot journal, Celebrating The Tarot.  Using Jungian and archetypal psychology, Geraldine teaches students how to use Tarot as a tool for personal transformation and how to apply the Tarot’s esoteric principles in wholly practical ways.  Her popular classes include a unique blend of spirituality, psychology, philosophy, literature and methods of personal empowerment.

Geraldine’s techniques and methods have a way of sticking with you long after her class is over… and that’s what The Readers Studio is all about!

Rachel Pollack An honored guest at every Readers Studio since we began, 2009 marks the return of Rachel Pollack to the stage as presenter!

A world-renowned expert, Rachel needs no introduction among Tarotists.  She is the author of 30 books of fiction and non-fiction, including 78 Degrees of Wisdom (widely acknowledged as among the top modern Tarot books ever written). Her newest contributions are a collection of short stories, Tarot of Perfection (Magic Realist Press/Baba Studio), and Tarot of Wisdom (Llewellyn), a book that Rachel considers her most in-depth look at the cards since 78 Degrees. Both are due out in time for The Readers Studio! Her mastery and reputation has made Rachel the go-to Tarot authority, as evidenced by her contributions to projects such as The Vertigo Tarot (DC Comics).

Rachel created her own deck, The Shining Tribe Tarot, and also wrote the texts for the Haindl Tarot.  Her novels have won the World Fantasy Award and the Arthur C. Clarke award.  Her Tarot book for teens, Seeker, won the COVR award at the 2006 International New Age Trade Show.

A longtime friend of The Tarot School, we can’t wait to hear what Rachel brings to the ballroom in 2009!

Our Experts Are Just The Beginning!
Pre-Conference Class On Thursday,
After-Hours Study Groups, and MORE…

STAY TUNED FOR IMPORTANT UPDATES!

With the pixie dust still settling on the 2008 event, we don’t yet have all the details on the after-hours study groups and breakfast roundtables.  We’ll post details here as soon as we have them, so watch this space!

After the stunning offerings at the last Readers Studio, our extra classes are more popular than ever! We’ve already got great stuff lined up for you in 2009.

For those who couldn’t get enough of their wit and wisdom in 2008, “Sir James” Wells and Thalassa, will both be leading study groups, along with one of our very favorite Tarot “old souls,” Matt Brooks. We’re also pleased to welcome Claudia Parda Bauman and Andrew R. Davis to our study group lineup. Stay tuned as we bring you their bios and class descriptions as we receive them.

As usual, early birds are welcomed to kick off The Readers Studio in style with an extra session of insight, intuition, and great company at our pre-conference class on Thursday afternoon.  We’d be delighted to have you join us for what promises to be a very intriguing session on a little-explored topic…

The Power of Silence

Silence is the original ocean of knowledge. It’s the beginning of question and answer, the source and root of mastery. All practices begin here. All power is the power of silence.

The practice and mastery of tarot also arise from the power of silence. When a student of tarot strives for mastery, he is like a fish looking for water, because the power of silence is as pervasive and invisible as the ocean. How would a fish feel when it discovered the ocean?

This year’s pre-conference class will introduce you to the ocean of silence and its power to transform your study and practice into the mastery you always possessed.

Silence is not the absence of sound, and mastery is not an abundance of skills. In this class, you will learn to infuse the skills you already have with four of the powers of silence. These are:

    The power to listen
    The power to wait
    The power to hear
    The power to remember

The power to listen sifts the essence from what is said, what is not said and what is left unsaid, by anyone or anything that wishes to communicate with you.

The power to wait presents the essence of a communication to that in you which knows, and waits for an appropriate response.

The power to hear understands the response that arises from deep inside you.

The power to remember grasps what you hear perfectly, and communicates it in the proper way — with a touch, a word, an act or a gesture.

All the powers of silence, including these four, belong to every living thing. Everything that is, lives. Any existent thing can initiate a communication with any other thing. Any thing is capable of a true response. You can listen to a rock, or to the wind, to the ticking of a clock, or to a tarot card, if these things wish to speak to you. You can wait for a true response from within. You can hear that response and understand what you hear. You can remember what your inner voice has told you and communicate it in a way that even a rock or the wind, even a person, can understand.

These powers are active and intense. You will discover each of them in turn, apply them in readings, and watch the power of silence begin to open in you like a flower.

I’m getting there early and signing up early too.  Sign me up NOW.

Every year, we stress the importance of getting plenty of rest and a good night’s sleep before The Readers Studio.  Because when you get here, you can expect nothing less than…

3 Days Of Total Tarot Immersion!

When you’re not in a master class, you’ll be talking Tarot over lunch, reading for new friends in the lobby or shopping for Tarot treats in the Merchant Faire.  After dinner, you’ll sip Tarot cocktails in the bar and we’d be incredibly surprised if you weren’t tempted by at least one of the study groups.  (Of course, you may have to decide between a study group and a Celebrity reading — choices, choices!)

When 11 pm rolls around, don’t expect to head back to your room without at least a little more time in the lobby or the bar, where crowds of passionate Tarot people will undoubtedly have gathered…

Who Should Come To The Readers Studio?

The Readers Studio is high-energy, intense and very interactive!  Giving and receiving more than 10 readings over the course of the weekend is not at all unusual.  If the thought of spending two and a half days with your deck in your hands doesn’t appeal to you, it’s probably not for you.

On the other hand… if ANY of the following describe you…

check! You’re passionate about Tarot and are always looking for a new deck, book, or spread to try…
check! You’ve dreamed of working side-by-side with your favorite authors but have never had the chance (or never pass up the chance!)
check! You love to splurge on Tarot decks and books (yay!) but hate waiting for them to arrive in the mail (boo!)…
check! You love the connection of Tarot online communities and want to experience the feeling “in real life”…
check! You live in an area without a lot of “Tarot people” and wish you had a place of your own to call home…
check! You live in an area with a lot of Tarot people and you can’t get enough of hanging with the tribe!
And perhaps most importantly...
check! The idea of breathing, sleeping, eating and dreaming Tarot for an entire weekend makes you positively giddy with excitement (you’re not alone here, trust us…)

… then mark your calendar NOW because you won’t want to miss it!

“Why would I pass it up?”

The Readers Studio is a great place to meet other tarot-lovers; and we are an amazingly diverse and ubiquitous open-minded herd of mountain goats, anthropologists, gazelles, paupers, theurgists, toads, financial consultants, cabalists, ministers, sylphs, witches, hucksters, techies, magickians, artists, mystics, actors, hoodooists, bankers, poets, the indolent wealthy, metaphysicians, the industrious poor, academics, salamanders, psychologists, gnomes, Platonists, wiccans, philosophers, tycoons, social workers, mystics, school teachers and walk-ins you’re ever like to see guffawing together in the same place.

Why would I pass it up?

“Do I need to be a Tarot expert already?”

Nope!  Beginner readers are more than welcome.  However, because of the hands-on nature of the activities, you should have basic reading skills at the very least.  Here’s our barometer: if you can complete a 3-card reading without the help of a book, you’ve got the skills you need to participate fully in the event.

Whether you’ve just started reading for friends or you’ve been reading in public for the past 20 years, your readings will improve. You’ll see it happen with your own eyes, thanks to our signature “The Proof Is In The Cards” technique…

The Readers Studio Signature
Reading: The Foundation Reading

It’s our first order of business in our very first session.  Here’s how it works.

You’ll pair up with a partner and do a reading of your choosing using whatever techniques you have when you walk in the door.  You’ll have at least 20 minutes each to go deep into your questions, and give each other feedback, and you’ll want to take a lot of notes so you don’t forget a thing.

On Sunday morning, you’ll find your partner and revisit the reading.  Same cards, same question, only this time, you’ll also have all the techniques you’ve picked up over two and a half days of packed sessions, impromptu readings, passionate conversation and practice, practice, practice.

We promise — your reading WILL change for the better!  The foundation reading also serves to “lock in” all the information you’ve been learning so you won’t lose it.  You’ll be thrilled when you see for yourself just how far you’ve come!

“I returned feeling and finally believing
that I was a reader.”

— Elizabeth Cassedy

“This year’s Foundation Reading was special.”

This year’s Foundation Reading was so special for me this year. My partner and I went deep into the cards and I got some of the best practical advice I’ve received in a long time.  I love coming to The Readers Studio because it’s not just about learning Tarot — it’s about learning about myself with the help of people who really get it.

— Elizabeth Genco

“Foundation readings reinforce
what you learn over the weekend.”

The foundation readings are an excellent exercise that serves to reinforce what you have learned over the weekend. It’s a very good way to retain everything.

— Amy Lamash

Of course, even the hardiest of Tarot die-hards need a little break sometime! At The Readers Studio, there’s plenty of opportunity for rest, relaxation, rejuvination… and fun! Come with a little extra spending money because, as usual, we’ve got…

The Best Tarot Decks And Delights!

Our ever-popular Merchant Faire will be back next year, of course, and it will be packed to the gills with the best stuff.  Here’s who already confirmed for the Merchant Faire next year…

Robert Place — A longtime favorite and Readers Studio regular, Bob Place will be back with more prints from his classic decks (The Alchemical Tarot) and works in progress (The Vampire Tarot, Tarot Of The Sevenfold Mystery, his Celtic Tarot), plus a generous selection of his stunning jewelry.

Ciro Marchetti — Ciro Marchetti charmed just about everyone who attended The Studio in 2008 and we can’t get enough of him.  He’ll have posters, prints… and, yes, if you twist his arm, he might throw in a joke or two for free! His stunning RS08 poster was a real crowd-pleaser and his new artwork for 2009 is another must-have collectible. (You can see it a little further down.)

Joanna Powell Colbert— Joanna’s forthcoming deck, The Gaian Tarot, is one of the most anticipated decks-in-progress — the first edition of the majors-only deck sold out before it was released. Joanna will have prints and artwork for sale, and while we can’t make any promises, a little birdy told us that she’s aiming to get the Minors done this fall.  (We’re keeping our fingers crossed!) Joanna will also have handmade, one-of-a-kind Tarot-themed jewelry next year.

Julie Cuccia-Watts— Pop quiz: what do three of the most coveted decks in the Tarot community — The Ancestral Path, The Blue Moon and The Maat — have in common?  Answer: all were birthed by the hands and heart of painter Julie Cuccia-Watts.  Julie returns to the Merchant Faire next year with decks, books, prints, tarot bags and more.

Connie "Garnet" Schaeffer — It’s hard not to touch or hold one of Garnet’s wands or crystals and not feel the energy instantly.  Her creations found so many good homes in the heart-hearths of Readers Studio attendees last year that she has already decided to return.  We couldn’t be happier!

The Tarot Garden — Everyone’s favorite one-stop shop popular, imported, small press, limited edition, out-of-print, and rare decks will be BACK!  Jeannette Roth is committed elsewhere in 2009, so it’s Dan Pelletier’s first Readers Studio with us.  Dan will bring a generous sampling of decks, but if you’re looking for that specific “special something” as the date nears, just drop The Tarot Garden an email and Dan will do his best to bring it along.

The Tarot School
 — Of course, we’ll have plenty of goodies for you as well, including our educational Tarot audio programs and books, birth card journals and buttons, Tarot School logo bags and totes, music cds, and a few surprises!

As you can see, we’ve already got an incredible lineup of merchants… and we expect to get more! (We’re currently talking to one merchant who will make book lovers — in other words, just about everyone — very happy indeed… watch this space for updates!)

If your budget is tight, not to worry — as usual, we’ll be giving away the good stuff from the stage all weekend long!  We always have tons of goodies to raffle off, and many of our celebrities and guests donate more throughout the weekend.  And don’t forget to scan your shelves before you leave home for the Free Swap Table — leave a little something behind, and take home a new treasure to call your own.

I’m in it for the loot!  Sign me up NOW!

2009

Ciro Marchetti Our beautiful poster for The 2009 Readers Studio was created by Ciro Marchetti.

Ciro is a visionary artist who was greeted with cheers and enthusiasm at RS08. He is the creator of three extraordinary tarot decks — the best-selling Gilded Tarot (voted the #1 most popular Tarot deck in 2004 by Aeclectic.net visitors and the second most popular deck of all time), the beloved Tarot of Dreams, and the upcoming wildly anticipated Legacy of the Divine Tarot.

No stranger to awards and accolades, Ciro's breathtaking design and illustration work has earned him no fewer than four wins in MacWorld's Digital Art Competition (including a 'Best of Show' nod in 2001), five GURU Awards from the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), a Worldwide Digital Canvas Award in 2006 and a Worldwide Photoshop Award in 2007.

Ciro's work has taken him all over the world, including Europe and South America. He now resides in Florida, where he pursues his passion for illustration, runs his own design firm and teaches digital imagery at the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute.

We're incredibly honored to have Ciro on our team once again this year. He promises to be back with copies of this year's poster art and favorite rowdy jokes. You can reserve your print through the Readers Studio Ning or by contacting Ciro directly at cirom @ mac dot com. This second in his series of collectible posters is the perfect memento of the event, one you're sure to enjoy for years to come.

The Tarot Stars Gather For The Celebrity Psychic Fair

It’s one of our most popular offerings… the Celebrity Psychic Fair!  The Celebrity Psychic fair is your chance to get a personal tarot reading from your favorite author or artist.

Each year, we invite back each and every one of our past presenters as attendees.  We know they’ll love it, but we have a secret reason for doing so: you!  Not only do we want them in the audience working with you, we want to give you the chance to get a personal reading with them.

Our lineup for 2009 will include Rachel Pollack, Bob Place, Geraldine Amaral, James Wanless, Corrine Kenner, Thalassa, James Wells, and Julie Cuccia-Watts. Of course, it IS still very early… we’ll have more to come as the event gets closer.  Be sure to check back to see who else will be reading as registration fills up.

If you’ve ever wished you could get personal guidance from your Tarot heroes, The Readers Studio is your chance!

Mix and Mingle at the Friday Night Cocktail Party!

At the end of day 1 (Friday), join us for hors d’ouvres and Tarot-themed cocktails as we relax, unwind and connect with friends old and new.  Have a nibble, have a laugh, have a great conversation with a fellow reader you’ve just met… or someone you’ve known for years.  And don’t forget to bring your decks!

We love catching up with all our guests — it’s one of the reasons we started The Readers Studio in the first place!  We had such a great time at the party last year that we can’t pass up the chance to do it again.

We fully expect 2009 to be our biggest Readers Studio ever.  Even if you’ve been to every event before, there’s bound to be plenty of new faces!  We invite you to come early, stay late, and enjoy the energy of the community we create when we come together.

Relax, Renew, and Re-Charge When You Need It…

The energy of The Readers Studio is vibrant, pulsing… and as the weekend goes on, bursting at the seams!  The good vibes are wonderful… but, of course, even good vibes can be draining.

You’ll always have a place to ground and center in our meditation room.  We encourage you to honor your need for a quiet moment, or just to connect with yourself or with Spirit — it’ll make all the difference.

And when you need a quick pick-me-up, look no further than the back of the ballroom  — we’ll have coffee, tea, hot chocolate and Emergen-C throughout the entire conference.

“Instant solace…”

I entered the meditation room and achieved instant solace, embraced by the circle arrangement of chairs, gentleness of light, and soft sweet music. The central altar with its subtly winking cloth, crystals in various shapes, and the four corners of color-shifting light drew me to settle for a good hour. I’m not a routine meditator, but I simply could not help myself — it was so lovely.

— Suzanne Carter

… And Top Off The Weekend With A Celebration!

When Sunday comes (all too soon), it’s time to congratulate each other for good work done well and all that we’ve shared.

We end each Readers Studio with a community forum and achievement ceremony. When your name is called, we invite you to come to the stage, accept your certificate, and take a bow. Your Tarot friends and family will cheer you on!

“I was amazed at the cheers
when my name was called…”

The encouragement everyone gave each other was incredible. I was actually amazed and touched at how loud the cheers were for me when my name was announced to get my certificate.

— Debbie Lake

“It’s like everyone is getting congratulated
for just being who they are!”

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was the community forum at the very end. When Ruth Ann handed out RS08 certificates by calling out each participant’s name, the whole room enthusiastically clapped and cheered for each person. It’s like everyone is getting congratulated for just being who they are!

— Joanna Powell Colbert

A Rollicking Great Time With Some Of The Coolest
Tarot People You’ll Ever Meet And
Memories You’ll Cherish Forever!

“A stupendous, unprecedented, life-altering experience — WOWZA!”

My poor husband’s eyes are rolling back in his head, as I have absolutely bombarded him with incessant talk-talk-talk-talk-talk-talk- TALK about this stupendous, unprecedented, life-altering experience… the poor man doesn’t know what hit him — or, for that matter, what hit ME! WOWZA!

I, for one, will be eternally grateful for this phenomenal experience. I cannot encourage others of you strongly enough to try to make this experience happen for yourselves at the next Readers Studio!

— Maribeth Pittman

“Even better than I expected!”

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Readers Studio weekend was even better than I expected (and my expectations were quite high). The knowledge and wisdom shared by the workshop leaders and attendees, the connections we made, the conversations (lengthy and late into the night) we had — all tremendously exciting and inspirational. Thank you for your passion and persistence in presenting this unique and wonderful event! We’re all looking forward to next year!

— Anastasia Haysler

“Filled with power, energy, life, and passion”

The Readers Studio has lit a fire within us. We are now filled with power, energy, life, and passion.

—Lloyd Gootee, Jr.

“Laughter and tenderness…”

It’s action-packed, educational, and enjoyable. Opening and closing sessions, three principle workshops, mini study groups, private consultations, shopping galore (tarot decks, books, jewelry, artwork, crystals, and more), and social time with folks who are astoundingly supportive and riotously funny. I came away with knowledge, love, and more tarot decks and books.

My reunion with people too numerous to mention individually (I adore ALL of you!) touched me deeply. There were moments of rib-aching laughter juxtaposed with moments of tenderness that brought tears to my eyes.

— “Sir James” Wells

“Simply a relevation.”

It is crystal clear why those drawn to the Tarot mystery return to this loving and supportive environment. As I review my notes and scan my memories, I continue to feel the impact left from the attending of this event. Ripples abound. I look forward to my return. Kudos to the founders and staff for the creation and vision of this event. Simply a revelation.

—Artemis Jackson

“The whole weekend was transformational.”

The whole weekend was very transformational and I would not miss this opportunity again!  You’re not only changing the Tarot world for the better, but I believe that you are bettering the lives of everyone who attends.

I can’t wait to see whats in store next year!

—Dawn Bright

When we began The Readers Studio, we set out to create a place where people who are passionate about Tarot can meet, network, and most importantly, take their skills to the next level. We always knew that community would play a large part in whatever the event was to become. But when we look at the rich, vibrant extended family that we have now — well, let’s just say we never could have imagined it!

As the community has blossomed, so has a certain phenomenon…

Almost Everyone Who Comes To
The Readers Studio Wants To Come Back!

We first began to notice it a few years ago.  In the afterglow of the closing ritual, then echoed later online in blogs and forums, we’d hear enthusiastic comments. Comments like…

I’ve already decided I’m definitely going again…took 5 years to get me there, and now I can’t get enough!” (Crystal Sage)

“We were not people meeting for the first time. We were dear friends having a REUNION. I know this is just the first of many… (Christine Navarro)

“When I first signed up for this Readers Studio, I thought it might be the only time I was going to be able to attend, so I wanted to make sure that I would really enjoy myself. But I’ve already caught myself planning for next year… (Karen Shelley)

“I have attended The Readers Studio since it first started, each year it gets better and better. There is no other event that brings all the Tarot greats together for learning, fun and friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you Ruth Ann and Wald for putting it all together. I will attend for years to come.”  (Tisha Botti)

This is one Tarot event I just will not miss.  (Joanna Powell Colbert)

We’re always grateful for such comments.  And our numbers started to build…

Attendance up by 40% in 2007…

Then another 50% in 2008 (double the attendance of the 2006 event)…

Sold out in 2008 with a waiting list of 44…

Meanwhile, “The Readers Studio tribe” has grown online and off, as mini-communities began to spring up around the event.  Popular message boards, such as Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Raleigh-Durham Tarot Meetup and the Living Tarot Meetup hosted by Ferol Humphrey, host Readers Studio threads that last all year long.

And there’s something you should know…

Only moments after the 2008 event ended, readers approached us in person, asking to be put on the “early bird” registration list.  Since then, we’ve received email after email from eager readers, asking us to notify them the minute registration opens…

“I’ll be watching for the announcement…”

As a teacher and student of Tarot as well as other metaphysical topics, I find The Readers Studio to be THE BEST event I attend all year, bar none.  I learn a lot, I spend time with Tarot and meet some wonderful, fabulous, fun people.  It is great to meet my ’Tarot heroes’ and find new heroes and friends.  All of us, famous or not, sit side by side to learn, laugh, and read cards.  What could be better?

The Readers Studio is the best!  I’ll be watching for the annoucement of next year’s date and get my registration in fast!

— Gail Wood, Wiccan author

“Put me on your early notification list —
I’m ready to sign up right now!”

I can’t wait for next year. I’m ready to sign up right now! Please put me on your early registration notification list — or whatever you send out first. I plan to sign up and plunk down my deposit right away.

— Judie Hughes

“RS 2009 or BUST!”

I was only at The Readers Studio in spirit this year, but I am still excited about it, even though I wasn’t physically there! The very idea of so many tarotists in one place, all those decks being shuffled… just the thought of it makes me want to hug myself! I have already started the “RS 2009 or BUST” fund!

— Robyn Steffen

So what does it all mean?  From where we’re sitting, the message is clear…

SIGN UP EARLY
(Or Risk Missing Out)

We’re incredibly grateful for the growth and transformation of this amazing community over the past two years.  And we’re going to do everything in our power to see to it that everyone gets what they need from The Readers Studio, and walks away happy, fulfilled and having had a truly magical time.

But it’s just two of us, and we can only grow so far, so fast.  We would love to host everyone and anyone who would like to come.  But it’s just not possible.

When all is said and done, there’s a limit to the number of attendees we can accommodate.  Our numbers have steadily risen for the past two years.  And as you’ve seen, many past attendees already have their mind made up.  We get email almost every day from readers who want to be added to the announcement list.

What’s more, stories of the 2008 Readers Studio have spread online, and the excitement for 2009 is mounting. We regularly “overhear” comments like these, on discussion boards and blogs…

“I waited too long to get my tickets for 2008, but
I won’t make that mistake again.”

We don’t mean to be overly dramatic here, but if you want to be at The Readers Studio next year, you really need to sign up now.

“Last year Ruth Ann and Wald thought that maybe I was being just a tad silly when I predicted that the 2008 Readers Studio would sell out by November 15 of 2007. Then it happened.

When we are all together, it’s so powerful, it changes things forever! I look forward to a grand convocation of Tarot community at the 2009 Readers Studio. Think of it! Nearly 300 attendees from all over the world, brim full of Tarot magic.”
