The 2018 Readers Studio Presenters!
Mary is the founder of Tools and Rites of Transformation (T.A.R.O.T.) and is a member of many international tarot organizations. She is a featured speaker at tarot conferences and symposia around the world.
The author of nine books on tarot and a biography of four female magicians, Mary's latest book is Who Are You in the Tarot? (RedWheel/Weiser, 2011). Her previous book, 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card (Llewellyn, 2008) won the COVR award for best divination book.
Mary is the proud recipient of the 2007 International Tarot Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2006 Mercury Award from the Mary Redman Foundation for “excellence in communication in the metaphysical field.”
With an M.A. in English literature, Mary was a faculty member and administrator of a college in San Francisco for eleven years. She is an Arch-Priestess/Hierophant in the Fellowship of Isis. As a world traveler, she has lived in Japan, Germany, England, Mexico, six states in the U.S., and currently resides in Northern California.
Rachel Pollack is one of the founders of modern Tarot, along with such figures as Mary K. Greer, Angeles Arrien, James Wanless, and of course, Wald and Ruth Ann Amberstone.
Her book, 78 Degrees of Wisdom, described around the world by countless readers and teachers as “the Bible of Tarot readers,” came out in two parts, the Major and Minor Arcana, in 1980 and 1983, then was reprinted, in a revised one volume edition, in 1997. It has never been out of print, and has been sold all over the world.
Rachel is also a double award-winning fiction writer. Her novel, Unquenchable Fire, won Britain's prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award, while Godmother Night won the World Fantasy Award. Her 40th book, the novel The Fissure King, will be published in October 2017. She has also written comics—her two year run on Doom Patrol, now considered legendary by many, will be reprinted in 2018.
Rachel is the creator of The Shining Tribe Tarot, and has co-created, with Robert Place, The Raziel Tarot and The Burning Serpent Oracle–A Lenormand of the Soul.
Rachel has taught Tarot all over the world. Her books have been translated into 15 languages. Rachel, like Mary Greer, was one of the presenters at the very first Readers Studio. With the exception of 2015, when she was ill, Rachel has attended every Readers Studio.
